A CAMPAIGN has been launched to identify and support young carers in Slough.

Slough Borough Council wants to make sure they are not falling behind at school.

A young carer is someone who provides regular and ongoing practical or emotional support to a family member with disabilities.

Harpreet Rai, young carers’ lead at Slough Borough Council, said: “There are thousands of children and young people caring for loved ones with physical and emotional needs.

"Their responsibilities can range from being a shoulder to cry on, to looking after siblings or helping their parents with washing and getting dressed.

“The council is asking residents as well as professionals who come into contact with young people such as teachers, NHS staff and GPs to help identify young carers who may have gone unnoticed up until now.

"They may be working directly with a young person who is caring for a relative, or working with an adult who relies on a young person for care.” An event for young carers will run from 5-7pm in The Observatory Shopping Centre, next to Millie’s Cookies, on November 27.
