PLANS are afoot to plough more than £100,000 into redeveloping a 'neglected’ park - marking victory for a group of campaigning residents.

Bloom Park, in Middlegreen Road, Langley, is set for a makeover with a new play area for toddlers that could be ready by spring.

It follows calls from parents for the council to improve the park, which they say is in dire need of attention.

Mum Aamina Zafar-Tariq set up Facebook group Let’s Make Bloom Park Bloom in April after she found there was nowhere in the area for her to play with two-year-old son, Ibrahim.

“The park is really run down and there is nothing for young children,” she said. “It’s a beautiful park, but it is just not used.” The group now has more than 45 members, some of whom met with council officers to talk through redevelopment ideas in June.

Ideas included a circular path for people to exercise on, tree and flower planting and better lighting. Residents are now invited to have their say on proposed designs at a consultation meeting from 11am-1pm at Bloom Park on Saturday, November 8.

The money has come from a financial contribution by developer Taylor Wimper for the nearby Waterside Grange development, a range of family homes off Middlegreen Road.

Initial plans for the park include a new play area and addressing drainage issues, the council said.

“We are all really pleased - the turnaround has been really quick,” Mrs Zafar-Tariq added.
