SLOUGH will launch its first Youth Parliament for 11 to 19 year olds to make a difference in their community.

Youngsters will be elected to the Slough Youth Parliament (SYP) and provide a voice for the town’s youth and influence key decisions.

Members will sit on the SYP for a two-year term and will elect one representative to sit on the UK Youth Parliament, which is overseen by the British Youth Council. This will provide an opportunity to represent the views of Slough’s young people on a national level.

There has already been interest from schools and colleges, with candidates putting themselves forward for nomination to stand in the elections at the end of January.

Councillor Pavitar Mann, commissioner for education and children, said: “We pledged to involve young people in decisions that affect them and the future of the town and we have delivered on this promise.

“We are a young town and it’s right that our young people have the opportunity to exert some influence over the decisions being made that will affect their future in Slough.” Candidate nominations closes on Friday.
