SUPERHEROES and Narnia made an appearance as creative youngsters showcased their artistic flair.

Slough Library teamed up with Creative Junction to provide youngsters aged 11 to 15 with a programme of art activities based around interactive museum exhibition 26 Characters at Oxford’s Story Museum, during half-term last week.

The exhibition features many of Britain’s best-loved writers transforming themselves into the characters they loved as children.

The workshops, at the library in High Street, Slough, were a chance for youngsters to build a portfolio of artwork, with themes including superheroes, Narnia and real-life role models. Activities included making story books, creating pop-up elements, set design, a chance to visit the museum, and a visit from an animator from the BBC’s Rosie and Jim children’s programme.

Darren Ralphs, project assistant at Creative Junction, said: “The workshops are for aspiration and showing the children how to access different careers through arts. At the end of the week they will have completed the Arts Award Bronze (similar to the Duke of Edinburgh scheme), which is something they can take away.”
