A MAN has been charged, and a man and woman arrested in connection with the murder of a preacher who taught in Slough.

Abdulhadi Arwani, 48, from West London, was shot dead in his car in Greenhill, Wembley, on the morning of Tuesday, April 7.

Detectives from the S015 Counter Terrorism Command arrested a 53-year-old woman in Brent on Wednesday evening on suspicion of the commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism. A 61-year-old man arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder on Tuesday, was further arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of the commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism. Both remained in custody at a south London police station when the Observer went to press.

Leslie Cooper, 36, of Nightingale Road, Brent, was charged with murder on Tuesday and appeared at Camberwell Magistrates’ Court where he was remanded in custody. He was due to appear at the Old Bailey today.

Mr Arwani, a Syrian-born preacher who taught in Slough and West London, was found slumped at the wheel of his vehicle, a dark coloured Volkswagen Passat.

Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 11.15am to reports of a man suffering from gun shot wounds to his chest.

Murhaf Arwani, Mr Arwani’s son said: “My father was a very well loved figure in West London.

“He was the most peaceful man you could ever wish to meet. He just loved to help people.” As part of the ongoing investigation, officers are carrying out a number of searches of addresses in London including areas within the An Noor Cultural and Community Centre in West London.

Police say all officers involved in the search of the mosque (the An Noor Cultural and Community Centre) are sensitive to the impact that their presence will have and are aware that this action may cause concern in the local community.
