A COMMUNITY came together to raise funds to help keep a church going.
St John The Baptist Church in Stoke Poges Lane, Slough, held a table top sale on Saturday, to raise money for the upkeep of the church as well as other groups and churches.
Marcia Wright, a member of the church council and long-standing member of the church congregation, said: “We’ve been organising a series of fundraising events for church funds at St John’s Church.
“We’re also trying to give some of our local people a chance to raise money themselves.
“It was definitely a good day – there was a stall from the 18th Slough Guides and the 8th Slough Brownies, a plant stall, a raffle, a chocolate and toy tombola – which was very popular.
“There was a stall from St Peter’s Church in Chalvey as well as one from Hampshire Avenue Methodist Church.” Despite plans for the church building to only remain in its current form for 10 years, it has been standing for around 80 years and is now being kept up with the help of external support.
Mrs Wright added: “We’ve just lost one of our long-standing members of the church, Margaret Rowland, so people were a little bit down. It was good to be able to speak to people we hadn’t seen for a bit.” Around £170 was raised for the church.
