A SCHOOL is celebrating a big victory for road safety outside of its gates.

Claycots School in Bath Road, Slough, have finally received a lollipop person to assist pupils crossing the road, two and half years after first opening.

The lollipop person now helping the children to cross safely, was initially someone the school got on board to 'keep an eye on the children while crossing the road’, although he wasn’t insured to stand in the road.

Following training and full insurance, this is no longer the case and he is able to do the full job as of March 23.

Raza Kahn, “There is now a lollipop person which is great.

“Now he’s got a stick and is stepping out - I’m not saying it was the ultimate goal but it definitely makes it a much safer crossing.” A Slough Borough Council spokesman, said: “We’re delighted to have found someone to take on this important road safety role after such a lengthy recruitment campaign.

“We will continue to support him in his new role.”
