THE sun shone down as families gathered for a fun day in a park.

Burnham Health Promotion Trust organised the free event on Friday last week alongside students from the National Citizen Service (NCS).

Aimed at families with children under 12, the fun day featured a whole host of sports, games and craft activities to keep children active during the summer holidays.

Families could enjoy a picnic at the fun day held on the green in front of Burnham Park Hall in Windsor Lane, in what was the second staging of the event.

Shirley Shaw, Burnham Health Promotion Trust manager, said: "We were really pleased with everything. It was great weather and there was a great turnout.

"It was really lovely. Lots of families came along and had picnics on the green.

"We were working with the NCS, who ran and organised games and manned the refreshment stalls.

"It was a very happy and nice, relaxed day. We had lots of positive comments. It was a great success last year and we were keen to work with a new group of students this year."

Around 300 people turned out for the occasion, with students from the NCS hosting football games and craft activities and manning a soft play area for younger children.

Mrs Shaw added that the trust was working with another group of students next week for a different project with a group for elderly people in Burnham.
