AMATEUR photographers have the chance to showcase their skills as a photography club hosts an annual competition.

Stoke Poges Photographic Club is hosting the competition for photographers aged 14 and over, with this year's theme being the letter E.

The subject of the image has to be based on the letter E, for example elephant, enjoyment, eggs or exercise, and cash prizes are available for the winners.

Kevin Day, chairman of the club, said: "We just wanted to try and get the local community involved in photography.

"We are the photographic club and we are not expecting everyone to come along and join. But cameras are becoming so much more accessible than they were 10 years ago that anyone can take a good picture now.

"We wanted to get people to come along to the awards evening, have a look at what we do and see how their photos have got on and maybe win a prize."

It will be the first year that the competition has been opened to the public, having only been held amongst club members previously.

Mr Day added: "It is the first time we have opened it to the public, and not only is it going to be interesting to get entries from the public, but it would be interesting for the members to see what members of the public are taking pictures of.

"It would be great to see some young photographers putting in some of their ideas which we can learn from."

The photographer who finishes first will pick up £50, second place £25 and third £10.

It is free to enter and the closing date is Tuesday, September 13.

Judging and prize giving will take place at an open evening on Tuesday, September 27 at the Village Centre in Rogers Lane.
