MORE than £1,000 was raised as daredevils took a leap of faith to support a local hospice.

Fifteen bungee jumpers leapt from around 200ft above the Garibaldi pub in High Street, Burnham on Sunday last week to raise money for Thames Hospice.

Clothed in fancy dress, the fundraisers gained sponsorship money to take on the daring stunt, with the total at £1,000 and rising as more money comes in from donations.

Judi Ablett, landlady, did not jump from the top herself due to her fear of heights, but managed to raise funds in a different way.

She said: “I am absolutely terrified of heights so I managed to get £100 to go up the crane!

“We just wanted people to be as generous as they could and we are still counting the money.

“It was a brilliant day.

“The weather was lovely and it held out for us. There was a great atmosphere and we want to do it again next year.”

Slough Observer:

Ms Ablett’s partner, Mark Fleming who is also landlord, was one of the most daring, taking the plunge wearing just leopard print underwear.

The crane was placed in the car park of the pub, with the daring jumpers rising to the top via a lift before taking the plunge.

Fundraisers were required to raise at least £60 to cover the cost of hiring the equipment, with any extra money raised going to Thames Hospice based in Windsor.

But Ms Ablett was delighted with the fact that all targets were surpassed as the total reached the £1,000 mark.
