Good cause hoping fivers go a long way
A NOVEL way to raise funds for a community charity has got people's imaginations working. The Well@Lent Rise, a charity that aims to be at the centre of the Lent Rise community in Burnham, has launched the ‘£5 project' to help build The Well one brick at a time. They have given people £5 and they have to use that money to raise at least £5 more. Project development worker Pauline Poole said: "We launched it about a month ago with a Mamma Mia night to raise the money to give people the £5. "Somebody is going to use the money to buy ingredients to make cakes, another couple of ladies are knitters and have bought some wool to knit baby clothes which they have sold through a local shop. "Three people bound their £5 together and bought material for peg bags which they are selling to their friends and family. Somebody else is going to do a car wash and one woman is going to challenge her husband to a Ready Steady Cook night. The only criteria is that it has to be legal and fun!" The charity aims to have its own building as a community hub where they can provide resources for the community and offer information, practical advice and support. They would also like a coffee shop. They currently run a homework club out of Burnham Methodist Church but they have been trying to get a building in Stomp Road, Burnham. Mrs Poole said: "People round and about are getting involved. It is something that the community really wants. Lots of other agencies that are working in Burnham are keen to support us and get us going." To find out more or get involved email pauline@poolesburnham.eclipse.co.uk

Ice Dancing star back on the ice
AN actor and former Dancing on Ice star will don his ice skates once again for a charity event today (Sunday). Stefan Booth, who acted in The Bill and Hollyoaks and came second in the ITV ice dancing show in 2006, will be at the Pyjama Skate in aid of anti-bullying charity Kidscape at Slough Ice Arena from 11am. Fans of the actor who run Stefan Booth Online with his input pick a charity to support each year, with Kidscape the choice for 2009. The sponsored skate is a novel way to raise money. Dee Holben, who helps run the site, said: "About 20 of us are going to be skating around Slough Ice Arena in our pyjamas with Stefan. We are from all around, we have people from Bedfordshire and Gloucester coming. "It will definitely be fun and all in a good cause. It links back to his Dancing on Ice and he absolutely still adores ice skating. He can't wait, we are all looking forward to it." People in Slough can join in the fun and wear their pyjamas on the rink by registering at www.kidscape.org.uk or offer sponsorship at www.justgiving.com/SBO2009Charity

Tributes paid to Lent Rise School teacher
TRIBUTES have been paid to a young teacher who died early on Sunday morning after suffering a massive brain haemorrhage. Dani Taylor, 23, of Richings Park, who was a teacher at Lent Rise School in Burnham, woke on Saturday morning and a short time later lost consciousness. She died in Wexham Park Hospital on Sunday, with her wish being to donate organs to other people. Her parents Denis and Janet, and older brother Chris have paid tribute to her. Dad Denis said: "She was a fashion queen, she loved clothes and loved shopping. Her life really was her family and friends and her Church. She had so much faith in God's plan for her." Brenda Bigland, Lent Rise headteacher, said: "She was an absolutely lovely teacher, she really cared about the children, and was very happy with her job. She is going to be really sorely missed, the school community is devastated." There will be a small family service at Breakspear Crematorium on Friday, December 5 followed by a celebration of her life at St Peter's Church, Iver, at 2.30pm. Tributes can be left for Dani by signing the book of condolences here.
