SLOUGH Town FC joint boss Neil Baker is targeting a fast start when his side begin their Southern League Premier Division next month.
The Rebels begin their campaign with a home game against Frome Town on Saturday, August, 8 before travelling to Biggleswade Town, Stratford Town and Histon.
And Baker believes his and Jon Underwood’s men must make the most of the favourable hand they have been dealt.
He told the Observer: “It’s always nice to be at home on the first day. It’s a decent start and we just want to win.
“We’re quite pleased with what we have got to start with. We have missed some of the more fancied sides in the league which does give us the opportunity to get a good start.
“If we can get some momentum it gives us the chance to get points on the board early, but I said last year it’s a very tough league.
“Me and Jon will set our own targets and we want to pick up as many points as we can, but if you offered me three wins from the first four games I would definitely take it.”
The Rebels have enjoyed a fine pre-season so far, having beaten Farnborough 4-0, Hayes & Yeading 1-0 and, most recently, Burnham 6-2 on Tuesday night.
Jake Parsons scored twice, Scott Harris was also on target and new signing Lewis Putman grabbed a sensational hat-trick.
And Baker beamed: “It was another positive performance for us and we put Burnham to the sword – it could’ve been a far greater score as we missed a few chances.
“But it was a good performance from our lads and we played them off the pitch.
“It’s really good to see the new signings do well. The club is a good place to be at the moment and the lads are all getting on really well.
“I’m delighted for Lewis and he’ll get the plaudits. He’s a goalscorer and I’m delighted we’ve got him.
“We’ve also got Ed Smith and Scott Harris, who are big players, and I think we have got goals in us.”
He continued: “It’s only pre-season but it’s a positive place and our job is to make sure we’re ready for when the real stuff starts.
“I’ll be happy if we can improve on last year both with results and performances. We put in some really good performances last year but also some really bad ones.”
Baker also confirmed the club have no plans to further bolster their side, concluding: “We won’t be bringing in any more players into the squad unless there are injuries and we’re pleased with what we’ve got.
“We’ve been working with all the lads and we’re pleased with where we are.”
