JON Underwood has admitted that Slough Town need to find some improvement after a pair of defeats in the Southern Premier Division this week.

Rebels lost 2-1 at Bedworth United on Saturday and followed up with a 2-0 home reverse against Redditch on Tuesday, leaving them 19th place in the table.

Slough joint-boss Underwood believes there is a fine line between success and failure, and he is demanding more effort from his team in a bid to turn their fortunes around.

He told the Observer: “We’ve been competitive in all our games but for whatever reason it’s not happening for us. Things aren’t going our way at the moment, and how we didn’t score against Redditch I will never know.

“We’re far more solid than last season and we are creating chances. You have to look and say we’ve not been clinical enough in front of goal, but that’s not just the forwards. We have midfielders and defenders that are missing chances as well.

“Over a small period of time you can accept that, but we’re 10 games in now and you can’t give the same excuses, we need some improvement.

“If we weren’t creating chances it would be more of a concern. It would be a big worry if we had been totally out-played, but that’s not the case. It’s down to very fine lines but we need to do more.”

Slough recently signed Dan Hicks – who scored on his debut at Bedworth United on Saturday – and Jhai Dhillon as a replacement for Ryan Parsons, who left the club last week for personal reasons.

And Underwood hinted at further changes as he and fellow boss Neil Baker continue to search for a solution.

He said: “We’re constantly looking at the squad but aren’t panicking. We put this group together and believe in the players, so we’re not going to rip it apart in mid-season as we know it will evolve.

“But we’re constantly looking to improve and if there’s someone we can get to improve us then we will bring them in.”

Slough turn their attentions to the FA Cup this Saturday and a second qualifying round tie away at National South club Basingstoke Town (3pm).

Underwood said: “It’s a game we’re all looking forward to. Basingstoke are a side from the level above but haven’t got a win yet in the league, so that gives us a little bit of hope.

“Clearly on paper they’re a good side, and we’ve got to go and put last week behind us. We know we’re going to have to play very well in order to progress but we know we are capable of performing in big games.

“Both clubs are expecting to do better in the league and will see this game as a chance to win, and then push on. Neither are where they want to be so it’s a chance to get a morale-boosting win.”
