MAIDENHEAD Crown produced a near perfect performance to beat Phoenix Old Boys 7-1 at Farnham Park on Sunday.

After four consecutive cup games, Maidenhead returned to league action in some style to move up to third place in Thames Valley Division Two.

It did not take long for the deadlock to be broken. Good work from Steven Eaton meant Matthew Hillier was left with a close range finish.

Not long after, captain James Murdoch also finished from close range after an Alan Burton effort was blocked.

Forward Eaton then passed the ball to Murdoch who delicately chipped the ball over the keeper from close range. A very good finish from the midfielder.

More of the same was required in the second-half but Maidenhead took their foot off the gas and a Phoenix player finished well from 20-yards out.

The Crown then started to take the game to Phoenix and a great run and cut back by man-of-the-match Matthew Smith was well finished by Burton inside the box.

The was followed by a superb ball into the area by David Butler, which was well finished by the head of Murdoch. The captain claiming his first hat-trick of the season.

Eaton scored Maidenhead's sixth goal with a good finish from inside the area after a defensive mix up. The final goal was also scored by Eaton, a very good long distance finish from around 25-yards.

Shepherds Hut put in their best performance of the season to beat a tough FC Clewer 5-2 and move up to fifth place in the table.

Clewer showed their intent in the first minute as Jay Nealon failed to clear and the ball fell to a striker to fire in from outside the box.

The Hut responded well and soon pulled one back after Nealon whipped in a corner, which rebound off Ollie Doore for Jack Tyson to tuck home.

The home team made it 2-1 when Tyson knocked down for Joe Beglarian, who lifted the ball over the Clewer keeper.

Josh Murray then got his first goal after good work from Karl Haggen and Wayne Richards to make it three-one before the break.

Clewer came out firing for the second period and hit the bar with a free-kick before pulling a goal back after a poor clearance.

Substitute Leo Normandy then sent Murray through for his second of the game, and this took the wind out of the visitors' sails.

Normandy finished the scoring after robbing the Clewer full-back and neatly dispatching the ball into the back of the net.

Merrymakers Old Boys made it through to round three of the Tony Blay Memorial Trophy after a thrilling 6-5 win against Foresters Arms at Kedermister Park.

James Clark scored a hat-trick and there was further goals from Jake Hearn, Robert Blanchard and James Donovan.
