JON Underwood believes that Slough Town are showing signs of a return to form ahead of key fixtures in the Southern Premier Division this week.

The Rebels travel to Weymouth this Saturday (3pm) before Welsh club Merthyr Town visit Holloways Park next Tuesday (7.45pm).

And after a little wobble last month, Underwood argues Slough will back themselves against two of the most established clubs in the Southern League.

Rebels’ joint-manager told the Observer: “We had a fantastic October but November was a bit patchy to be honest. Our results were disappointing, particularly against Stratford Town when we got beat at home.

“December was always going to be a very important month with tough games on paper, but we’ve so far managed to turn it around.

“We more than matched St Neots on Saturday, a well-fancied side in the league. We’ve had a little wobble but we’re coming back now.”

Underwood continued: “Weymouth are another side well tipped for promotion and are around the play-off positions. They’re well established at this level and it’s a good place to go and play, a proper old-fashioned non-league ground.

“We’re looking forward to it and a win would see us go level on points, so it’s a big incentive for us to remain in the top half of the table.

“Weymouth have had quite a few draws but don’t often get beat. They’re dominating matches but not taking their chances, so hopefully that will continue.”

He added: “Merthyr beat us in the FA Trophy last year and we were really impressed with them. We thought they would be up in the top six so I’m surprised they haven’t had the start they wanted.

“We still consider them a tough opponent but it’s a long trip for them to make in midweek, so we’ve got to be bullish and back ourselves.

“We’re playing well at the moment and are better in midweek so we have got to back ourselves.”

Slough extended their unbeaten league run to three matches after a 2-2 draw against St Neots Town on Saturday.

The Rebels twice recovered from falling a goal behind to secure a point at Holloways Park.
