FARNHAM Royal Cricket Club is firmly on the rise again following a couple of challenging seasons in the Thames Valley League.

Unlike a number of clubs, The Royals have really emphasized their commitment to bringing youth through the ranks.

Having stepped up as acting skipper last year, Chris Shave, 21, takes on the first team role again whilst the experienced Nigel Field will be advising him as vice-captain.

The second team are being led by stalwart Andy Jackson, who has keeper/batsman David Morgans, 16, as he vice-captain.

Sundays again are a mix as captain Brad Quelch, 23, and vice-captain Billy Long are leading the way.

Farnham are really focussing on bringing through the best in home-grown talent and, supported by Future Legends coaching team (one of whom is an ex-Royal), there has been a significant increase in the numbers of Under-21 players breaking through into the three adult teams.

With the Sunday team playing friendlies at home, it is a perfect way for players of all ages and experience to develop, gain experience and confidence before taking the step into league cricket.

With the second team in Division 7B, and the first team in Division 4B, players have the opportunities to progress, but it is not just all about what happens on the field.

The Royals have really established the social side of the club with an annual Beer & Cider festival, men’s and ladies’ darts teams, crib teams, and numerous social events including quiz and curry nights.

With it being such a family friendly club, the atmosphere is always welcoming and new members are always welcome.
