SLOUGH boxing sensation Adam Azim has retained his Golden Gloves by winning the National Schoolboy Championships for his age group at 48kg.

Azim, 13, trains at the Pinewood Amateur Boxing Club in Wokingham and was crowned the best in England in the class B 48kg at Grantham, Nottingham having come through the previous qualifying rounds.

The young star defeated Huey Malone from Christ the King ABC in Coventry by unanimous decision to clinch the title and his coveted second Golden Gloves.

Azim said: “The opponents this year have been tougher than before but I have improved.

“I had a tough quarter-final but defeated last year’s Golden Gloves winner.

“I have seen my elder brother win his first national title and then go on to represent England at the tri-nations and win gold, and that spurred me on to win the Golden Gloves again.

“I’ve put a lot of work into my training and have added a lot more to my game than previously before.

“I can’t wait to represent my country at the tri-nations and hopefully at the European Games in July.”

Azim is not now set to represent England at the tri-nations event in Doncaster and, if successful, will go on to represent England at the European Championships in Croatia in July.

The Azim brothers are having a lot of success this season with plenty more expected to come from both for club and country.
