THE multi-million pound Arbour Park Community Sports Facility (CSF) is getting 3G ready with the roll-out of the first class pitch well underway.

The work started last September with the main steel structure being installed.

The next stage of the build will includes works to the car park, main stand and sports hall, and these are all progressing well.

Councillor Joginder Bal, commissioner for the environment and leisure, said: “The laying of the 3G pitch marks a major milestone in the construction of the CSF as there is under two months until the first match is played, something we are all very excited about.

“I’m pleased to say the work to build the multi-use facility has made excellent progress and that is largely thanks to the teams working to deliver the CSF on time, and the relatively good weather we have had.

“On completion, the CSF will be a great new sports centre for local people to use and a fantastic new addition to the town’s overall leisure facilities, which will see a huge boost over the next few years as a result of the considerable investment we are making.”

The new CSF will serve an area of the borough that has high inactivity levels, and will offer a programme of activity to attract local people of all ages to become more active, more often, a key outcome in the council’s five-year £35 million leisure strategy.

In July 2014, cabinet approved the adoption of the council’s five-year leisure strategy which recommended a replacement facility for Montem Leisure Centre, improvement works to Slough Ice Arena and a new CSF to be developed on the Arbour Park site.

One year later, cabinet members made the decision to phase the development of the CSF with phase one on track to finish in August 2016.

Phase one includes building a four court sports hall for St Joseph’s School and community use, a 3G pitch, car park and sports accommodation including the ground floor of the main stand.

Phase two of the scheme will deliver the first floor accommodation of the main stand including a function room, and will continue without interrupting the opening and operation of the overall facility in August 2016.

The completion of phase two is estimated to be delivered in the spring of 2017.

The development of the CSF is being done in partnership with Slough Urban Renewal and constructed by Morgan Sindall.
