JON Underwood hopes that people will get behind Slough Town when their FA Cup journey continues at Cambridge City this Saturday.

Slough are away to Cambridge in the second qualifying round [3pm] having beaten Chipstead 6-1 in the previous round two weeks ago.

Underwood would like a cup run this season, and he believes it will build-up the Rebels’ support base at their new Arbour Park stadium.

“The FA Cup is massively important, it always is,” Slough joint-boss Underwood told the Slough Midweek Observer.

“We have just not done very well in the last few years, since we’ve been here, so we would like to do it.

“It’s always a great boost for the club when you have a cup run.

“We’ve said the way to build our support base here [Arbour Park] is to have big games so more and more people come and have a look.

“There’s no better way to do that than have an FA Cup run so hopefully we can progress through a few more rounds and get a big club down here, and a big crowd.”

He continued: “The more noise there is about the club at the minute the better. We want people to come and have a look.

“We are second in the league and we’re still in the cup, so we are doing our bit on the pitch.

“I know the guys off the field are doing the marketing side, trying to get the word out there.

“Everyone is doing all they can and we just hope that people get behind us.”
