GEORGE Green Juniors Football Club has gone from strength to strength since its beginnings in June 2015 following a meeting between secretary Nikki Clarke and Wexham Parish Council.

It was agreed that the club could play their home fixtures at Harvey Memorial Recreation Ground in George Green.

Stephen Hale – the FA Grassroots Coach of the Year in 2014 – took on the task to find players and coach an Under-11 side in the Thames Valley Development League, along with Rob Paris, Bal Padda and Derek Hamiga.

They received donations from local football clubs and sponsorship from Herbies Pizza and Fischer (innovative solutions).

Six months later, George Green applied for FA Charter Standard and in April of this year the club achieved it, which is a fantastic achievement as many bigger clubs have not attained such status.

It then became apparent that more players and managers could see how the club was looking to develop players and progress forward.

It was agreed that the club could use facilities at Wexham School in Norway Drive as well as George Green, and the junior football club grew began to grow.

At the start of the current season, George Green now has seven sides across a range of age groups, and sponsorship from GL Skinner & Son and Harrisons Chemist.

The club has also started Year 1 children on Saturday mornings in readiness for next season.

George Green receives additional funding from The Football Foundation which has helps the club to help pay for new coaches to pass their level one qualifications and assist players in becoming referees.
