SLOUGH RFC won a remarkable Bucks Bowl final on penalty kicks following an exhilarating 25-25 draw with Drifters.
Things started poorly for the Greenies, however, as Rob Wills went over for a try which was converted by Olly Ashton to put Drifters 7-0 in front.
However, Slough hit back and after they earned a penalty, a quick tap from James Flisher took his side closer to the line where Tom Young popped the ball to Robbie Morrison who scythed through the defence to score in the corner.
An Ashton penalty restored Drifters’ five-point lead, but after they conceded four scrum penalties on their line, Slough were awarded a penalty try, the conversion putting them in front.
Ashton landed another penalty to put Drifters 13-12 in front at half time, but Max Miles hit back with two of his own as Slough moved 18-13 up early in the second period.
In a game which ebbed and flowed throughout, prop Matt Rabiasz was the next to cross the whitewash for Drifters, levelling the scores.
The final stages were full of drama as Aidan Thomas went over for a converted Drifters score, but with Slough matching that, the game went to a sudden-death penalty shoot-out.
Both Ashton and Miles landed their initial efforts from in front of the posts on the 22, but it was the former who faltered when the second round was taken from the 15-metre line to the left of the posts on the 22, leaving the Slough captain to land the winning kick.
Slough host Abingdon in the BB&O Premier tomorrow (2pm), while Drifters are at home to Didcot (2.15pm).
