CHALVEY Sports chairman Scott Young has played down their incredible start to the new season insisting it is just a platform for possible future success.

Sports have gone unbeaten in 10 matches in the Hellenic Division Two East – nine wins and a draw – and are tipped by many to go on and win the title.

Their most recent success was a 9-0 thrashing of Aston Clinton Development on Saturday, a win that leaves them two points behind top of the table Milton Keynes Academy but with three matches in hand.

“The win was an emphatic one really,” Young told the Observer. “The pitch was extremely bogey because of all the rain we’ve had but the guys went out with the same attitude they’ve shown in every game this season.

“The guys wanted the three points but knew Aston can be a decent young side.

“We were two goals ahead after 23 minutes and that knocked the stuffing out of the other team.”

Konnor Saunders, Matty Edwards and Ryan Hazell all scored twice in the win at Aston Clinton, while Amin Khomsi and Liam Nash were also amongst the goals.

Young continued: “In terms of our season so far, the league has been excellent. We’ve only conceded one goal and that was a penalty, so we’ve not conceded from open play, but all it is at the moment is a start.

“To be unbeaten in 10 games is excellent but it is only a start because there is plenty of teams that can put decent runs together if we slip up. If we do slip up then our games in hand will disappear, so we will take it one game at a time.

“Merv Lloyd is our manager and he has managed teams to win this league before, so hopefully we can continue that run, but we have tough games coming up.

“We’ve got to play Lynchpin twice, Flackwell Heath Reserves, Oxford City Development and Milton Keynes.

“They’re all very tough games so we need to be at our very best to challenge for the title. We will take it one game at a time at the moment.”

Chalvey host Stokenchurch this Saturday (2.15pm) and Young has warned against complacency.

He said: “We have to focus on playing against Stokenchurch, We know they’re mid-table but probably not performed as well as they normally do.

“We need to be 100 per cent up for the game and be at our best to win."
