TEN-MAN Slough Town have exited the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup after a 4-2 semi-finals defeat against Maidenhead United at York Road tonight (Tuesday).

Maidenhead recovered from falling two goals behind to progress into the final, where they will play league rivals Hungerford Town, but only after a controversial red card to Slough defender Guy Hollis.

The Rebels took the lead on 14 minutes as Chris Flood bagged his first goal since joining the club. The home side failed to deal with a ball into the box so Flood shot first time into the bottom left-hand corner with his right foot.

Gavin James, an ex-Maidenhead player, doubled the advantage with a goal on 29 minutes. Lee Togwell lobbed the ball into the box from deep and the international striker was first to react, heading over the onrushing Carl Pentney and into the net.

The came the moment of controversy. Slough centre back Guy Hollis was shown a straight red card for a tackle on Rene Steer just outside the box. Hollis did catch the Magpies man but his foot was not high and studs were not showing so a yellow card would have been suffice.

The Rebels will also feel aggrieved as Maidenhead full-back Ryan Peters could easily have been sent off for a second yellow card beforehand. Already cautioned, Peters was late on Nathan Smart but only received a stern talking to from the match referee.

Slough reshuffled their pack to replace James with Dan Hicks and keep four at the back, but it was the substitute who was caught cold for the first Maidenhead goal. Red-hot Dave Tarpey pinched the ball from Hicks, ran down the left, and curled the ball past Mark Scott from just inside the box.

The Magpies levelled the tie at 2-2 after 69 minutes through substitute Jordan Cox. A long Sam Barratt throw was flicked on inside the box and Cox found the back of the net with a shot that came off the underside of the crossbar.

Maidenhead completed the comeback with a superb team goal just five minutes later. Cox flicked the ball on to Barratt and his cross from the left wing was headed in by captain Sean Marks from inside six-yards.

Slough threw everything at their hosts in an attempt to get back into the tie late on, including keeper Mark Scott, but the move backfired as Maidenhead scored a fourth goal in the second minute of time added on.

Scott came forward for a Rebels free-kick but Maidenhead cleared and, with only an empty goal ahead of him, substitute James Mulley composed himself to roll the ball in from 40-yards.
