SCOTT Young has explained that Chalvey Sports are looking over their shoulders despite enjoying a clear lead at the top of Hellenic Division Two East.

Chalvey beat second placed Milton Keynes Academy 3-1 on Saturday to go three points clear at the top of the table.

However, Young knows his team will have to remain at their very best in the remaining 12 matches to win the title this season - their first in the Hellenic League.

“It was pretty comfortable on Saturday to be honest,” the Sports chairman told the Observer.

“The lads played really well, probably not at our best, but we didn’t need to be. We probably should have been ahead at half-time.

“Give Milton Keynes credit, their best spell was when we were 3-1 up in the last 20 minutes.

“Defensively we’re very strong this year so we held them back and kept them to long range efforts.

“We’ve only conceded three in the league which is pretty good, and the whole team takes it personally if we do concede.”

Milton Keynes started the match the better and took a 17th minute lead when Ryan Kelsy cut in on his left foot and hit a superb shot into the top left-hand corner of the net.

Chalvey equalised eight minutes later when a Ryan Hazell corner evaded everyone in the box and found the far top corner.

Milton Keynes started the second half the better and should have taken the lead on 64 minutes but Sports defender Sean Robinson headed a goal-bound effort off the line.

Three minutes later Chalvey took the lead as an Amin Khomsi cross found Hazell six-yards out to tap home.

Konnor Saunders added a third goal after a Matty Edwards header struck the bar, converting with his head from close range.

Young said: “The win puts us four points clear of them in second and we’ve got games in hand, but we’re looking over our shoulder. It’s going to be tight towards the end of the season.”

Chalvey are away to Stokenchurch this Saturday (3pm) where Young expects a tough test.

He said: “They’re an experienced side and have a few players from Slough Laurencians in the East Berkshire League, so we know they can perform at a decent level.

“I'm confident we can get another three points but we've just got to take each game as it comes.

“We're definitely not going to underestimate them because we take everyone in the league seriously.
