SCOTT Bright wants to win the Berks & Bucks Sunday Junior Cup with Langley Galaxy this season to act as a marker for future success.

The club was only formed at the start of this season but reached the semi-finals of the competition with a 5-2 win at Polonia Reading two weeks ago.

Bright admits he is surprised by the cup run, which continues with the semi-finals at home to Kukui this Sunday (10.30am), but he insists his team are ‘buzzing’ for the chance to lift the trophy.

The Galaxy manager told the Observer: “Probably our best performance was the second round win against Beaconsfield Reserves (3-2). Although we conceded two goals we just defended so well against quite a good side and could have been out of sight in the first 20 minutes.

“We’ve not had an easy run, there have been some tough teams, and it has taken us by surprise but we’re all buzzing for it.

“This is our first year as a club and some players have never been involved at this stage before.

“We’ve got a lot of former Premier Division players in the side but we will keep our feet on the ground and see where we get to.

“Everyone wants to win because it’s the best cup we’re in. Obviously we want to set an example for next season to do well again and now people are taking an interest in the club.

“People are starting to have a look and more are getting in touch, which helps out the players and management.”

It could be a special first season for Galaxy who are still unbeaten in all competitions, including in Division One where they trail leaders Foresters Arms by four points but with three games in hand.

“We are a few games behind but there’s no reason why we can’t go on and win it because we’re the best team by far,” said Bright.
