JON Underwood insists that Slough Town must keep on winning to stay in the race for the Southern Premier Division title this season.

The Rebels made it seven wins from nine matches with a 3-2 victory against Basingstoke at Arbour Park on Saturday.

Chris Flood scored twice against his former club and James Dobson bagged his 20th goal of the season, but the match was marred by a serious injury to Mark Scott.

The keeper suffered a broken neck and will undergo an operation at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford today (Monday).

The win keeps Slough in third position in the table ahead of three consecutive away matches, starting with a trip to Biggleswade on Wednesday (7.45pm).

Slough joint-manager Underwood told the Slough Midweek: “We have 10 games left and it (winning) is what it’s all about.

“You look at the results on Saturday and Chippenham nicked a late win, and Leamington and Merthyr won, so we have to just keep on winning.

“It keeps us third so now we have just got to keep on doing our job.

“We’ve got some massive games coming up but we’re in good form. That is seven wins from nine and that’s a great run.

“We’ve got three away games in a week, which is difficult, but we have got to keep on winning. We will not be going to any of those games looking for a point.

“We’ve got to go and win those games if we’re serious about staying in touch with Chippenham, which we are.

“We’ve got to take those chances and win these games. None of them are easy but we’re in good form so we will go there confident.”

The Rebels are away to promotion rivals Hitchin on Saturday (3pm) and then travel to St Neots next Tuesday (7.45pm).

Commenting on the win against Basingstoke, Underwood said: “I’m delighted to get the win. However you get there, you need to try to get there and get the three points.

“It was quite an eventful day and some things are more important than football. From a football point of view, the lads did great to get their heads back on it after the injury and see the job through.

“I thought we had a couple of nervy moments but generally we were the better side throughout.”
