DENNY Bulman won the PowerBox Promotions Class B light heavyweight title after a split decision win against Jeff Cohen at the Atik on Sunday.

Bulman, 27, told the Slough Midweek: “I’m over the moon. I couldn’t ask for more. Everyone out there cheering me on meant the world to me.

“I felt I could have done better. I boxed well and didn’t get rushed into any needless brawls. I just stood back, watched what he was doing and played it careful.

“It was a very good fight. Jeff is very experienced, he knows what he’s doing and he is a proper gentleman, so if he wants another crack at it I will give him it.

“I was going to go in there, feel him out, and see what he was made of. To be fair, he is a very good fighter and I thought that as well.

“He wants to go again, so we will do that. I’m not one to back down from a challenge.”

Elsewhere on the card Daniel Gaut beat heavyweight rival Rees Cornell on points in a title eliminator.

The two rivals exchanged heated words in the build-up to the fight but there was great mutual respect between them afterwards.

Gaut said: “I’ve got respect for Rees now. That was a brilliant fight. What has happened pre-fight, he has apologised to my wife, so it’s all forgotten as far am I’m concerned.”

Cornell commented: “Fair play to Dan. It was a good fight and we both gave it our all. The referee went with him and I think it was the most fair decision. He caught me with a couple of shots but it was very good.”
