SLOUGH LIONS are hoping for revenge when taking on rivals Phoenix Old Boys in the Mary Wells Memorial Trophy final at Holloways Park tonight (Friday, 7.30pm).

The Lions have had a tough route into their first final for over 10 years, and suffered a 3-1 defeat to Phoenix in a league fixture two weeks ago.

But, club secretary Joginder Dohil expects Slough to bring a party atmosphere to the final and he believes victory could spur the Lions on to complete a league and cup double.

Dohil told the Observer: “Our best performances en route to the final were probably against BAA Heathrow and Hedgerley. They’re both fighting for the league with us and we already had tough games against them.

“This will be our first time in a cup final for 10 years so we’re all very excited, boosted and ready to give it our all.

“Both are young so it should be a fast game, but it might start a bit cagey. It’s going to be another tough game.

“Both have great attacking abilities as we found out first hand a couple of weeks ago when we played an under strength side so not to give anything away. They beat us then so we are hoping for a bit of revenge.

“It will be an absolutely great occasion and we will bring the Asian flavour to the final. We will have a lot of support and bring the Indian party to the game.”

Dohil continued: “We have a new management team. The club had been under-performing so we had a total restructure of the team. We had a lot of new players so it’s a transitional period for us.

“The aim at the start of the season was to win the cup and the league, and we’re still fighting for that. To win the cup would be a great achievement for the club and a good boost to keep on pushing for the league, and going forward as well.

“We want to progress more and get into the Premier Division, and we know that on our day we are capable of beating anyone.”
