SLOUGH Town goalkeeper Mark Scott successfully underwent surgery on Monday to repair his broken neck.

Scott shattered his C6 vertebrae at the base of his neck after an accidental collision with Basingstoke midfielder Nana Owusu on Saturday.

He was immobilised at Wexham Park Hospital and underwent a number of tests and scans, before being transferred to the John Radcliffe Hospital on Monday for an operation.

Posting on his Facebook page after the op, Scott said: "The operation went well. They have taken a bit of hip bone to fuse the metal plate to my neck, which is now stable.

"I have so many people to thank it has been an insane few days. The amount of kind messages I've received is in the hundreds. We've found them so overwhelming I wish I could reply to every single one, and will try when home and resting.

"(It) Just goes to show what a positive community football can be.

"My biggest thanks has to go to Kevin (McGoldrick, Slough Town physio) and Kelly Rutledge (Basingstoke physio) without whom this injury could of been a lot worse.

"John Porter, Jon Underwood, Neil Baker, Trent Phillips who have been checking up all the time, and keeping my mums worries to a minimum.

"And My family and my friends who have been so supportive."

A Crowdfunder page has been opened to raise funds to help Scott during his recovery period.

It is an extremely serious injury which will involve a lot of rest and recovery, at hospital and then at home, which means Scott will be unable to work as a trainee accountant for a period of up to three months.

He will also be unable to play football for the foreseable future.

Slough Town are now trying to raise funds to help replace some of his lost income as he has a partner, mortgate and bills to pay.

Specialists at John Radcliffe Hospital have high hopes that Scott will fully recover from the injury, however, in the meantime, any help would be appreaciated.

The Crowdfunder page can be accessed via the official Slough Town website.
