NEIL Baker believes one win from Slough Town’s last three games will be enough to secure a Southern League Premier Division play-off spot.

Fourth-placed Rebels slipped up with a 3-0 defeat at Kettering Town last Saturday, but remain four points clear of Banbury United, the team immediately outside the play-off spots.

Slough have the ideal chance to bounce back to winning ways as they target a seventh straight home win against relegation-threatened Cirencester Town this afternoon (Friday, 1pm), a result which could pile the pressure on Banbury ahead of their trip to third-placed Hitchin Town the following day.

And Baker (pictured right) is hoping for an emphatic response against second-bottom Cirencester.

He told the Observer: “It’s a home game and we have been good at home – we’ve won six on the bounce.

“We have to go at them and be positive, but with their position in the league, they’re also going to have to come at us and try to win the game.

“Some teams have come and put 10 men behind the ball which hasn’t really worked, but we’re aware of their league position and the fact they will be scrapping for their lives so we have to be ready.”

He added: “If we win it (the play-off race) could be over by Saturday if Hitchin beat Banbury, but if it’s not and we need to get something on Monday we will try to do so.

“Chesham is a local derby and we haven’t had a lot of luck against them recently, but there are three games to go and in all honesty I think one win will do.”

With a post-season campaign seemingly on the cards, Baker admitted form goes out the window after the regular campaign.

He confessed: “It is and it isn’t important to have momentum going into the play-offs.

“Obviously we want to be going in with two or three wins which could see us end near 90 points, but when we went up from Division One a few years ago we lost two of our last three games and beat the bottom side 1-0.

“We then put in two excellent performances.

“The play-offs are one-off occasions and we’d need to play well and I think we will, especially at home.”
