MARK BETTS will not make a decision on his future as joint-manager at Burnham until after a meeting with the club’s new Chairman in the coming weeks.

Betts and fellow joint-boss Jon Palmer arrived at The Gore back in January and kept The Blues in the Hellenic Premier Division with three wins and a draw from their 10 league games in charge.

The duo have been offered the role on a permanent basis but will not commit to the club until talks have been held.

Betts told the Observer: “We believed we could help Burnham stay up and it’s fantastic we’ve been able to do so.

“We’ve improved and got better with each game. That’s a credit to the players, out-going Chairman Gary Reeves and President Malcolm Higton.

“I will always put myself last and just asked the club to be run in a certain way for the last 10 games and they did that.

“We set out to win a certain number of games and we got there. Not at Tuffley Rovers on Saturday (3-2 defeat) but we went there to win all three points.

“I thanked the players because they stuck together, worked hard and did what we asked them to. They have kept Burnham up and no-one can take it away from them.”

He added: “We were brought in for the last 10 games to see if we could achieve our goal and were offered the job permanently a few weeks ago.

“We will meet with the club in the next couple of weeks. The new Chairman will come in and there will be a few other changes, so we will have to wait and see.

“The club can’t run as it has done in the last two or three years.

"You could be the best manager in the world but if things are not coming together and ticking behind the scenes it will not work.

"I come from Slough Town, an established club and Steve Easterbrook is the best chairman you could work for, and that is the way it has to be.

"I'm pleased to be asked would you like to have the job for the next four or five years but will not make a decision until we have sat down and spoken.

"And right down to the simple things like travel and players turning up in tracksuits. The basics need to be met to make it feel right.

"It's nice to be asked two or three times but we will wait until the new chairman comes in and take it from there."
