REAL Milan have won their first-ever Premier Division title after a near perfect season in the Thames Valley Sunday League.

Milan finished as runners-up in 2014 and 2016 but went one better this year, much to the delight of assistant manager Zufran Asghar.

“We were delighted to finally lift the title and it’s fantastic to win the league,” he told the Observer. “It’s been a draining season so to win the Premier Division title is a great achievement.

“We’ve been top since December and just stayed there. It was nearly the perfect season but, when we were certain we had won it, we switched off a little bit.

“We had a lot of big games throughout the season, one after the other, where everyone wants to beat you because you’ve not lost.

“In the league, we played one game and then didn’t play again for three weeks because we were in a lot of cup competitions, so it dragged on for a while but it was still good.

“When we did play again we were still top so no-one closed the gap on us.”

Asghar added: “The start to the season was key to us because in previous years we’ve started slow.

“We won our first few games and it helped us in the long run to focus on cup games, knowing we were in a good position in the league.”

Real Milan’s only league defeat this season came at the hands of Singh Sabha, losing 3-2 at The Falcon Centre.

Milan finish the season as the best team in the county having won the Berks & Bucks Sunday Intermediate Cup, and Asghar is keen to defend the two trophies next season.

He said :”The double was our main objective at the start of the season and I’m happy to achieve what we have.

“The way we won the county cup was fantastic. To play all the top sides and win it in the last minute was brilliant, and to top it off we added the league title to the trophy cabinet as well.”

Asghar added: “When you are at Real Milan you want to win everything and that will help us next season because, if you win all there is at once, you might lose motivation.

“The aim next season will be to better this year, keep on trying to win and add a little bit more.

“Sunday morning football is about little percentages, so a small slip-up can cause problems.

“A couple of bad results and clubs in the past have folded, and we definitely don’t want to end up in that situation.

“On the pitch we’ve got plenty of players that are loyal and keen to keep on going for the club, so we go again next season.”
