THE Royal Yachting Association (RYA) has presented Aaron Evans with a bursary from the London & South East Region Youth Training Fund Charity (YTFC) in recognition of his sailing achievements in 2017.

Over the last year, Evans was selected to compete at the Irish National as a part of the RYA Topper Squad and then earned himself a place in the Topper National Junior Squad for 2018.

He also sailed to first place in the RYA South East Zone Championships and was awarded their Best Performance prize.

Evans attends the Matthew Arnold School in Staines and is a member of the Silver Wing Sailing Club in Wraysbury where he races regularly as well as assisting with the training of junior sailors.

He is looking to complete the RYA Assistant Instructor course this year with the aim to develop budding junior sailors to follow in his footsteps.

Stuart Hall is Commodore of Silver Wing Sailing Club and said: “Aaron has shown commitment to his sailing and is a great ambassador for the juniors in our club and the region.

“This is a well deserved award and I’m looking forward to seeing his continued success.”

The RYA London & South East YTFC Performance Bursaries are intended to offer modest financial support to promising young sailors to help them with their ongoing efforts to fulfil their recognised potential.

In return, recipients pass on their experience and enthusiasm to help inspire others through their club and regional training events.
