WINDSOR have reached the quarter-finals of the FA Vase this season after a 2-0 win against Hamble Club in the fifth round proper on Saturday.

Windsor were always comfortable over Hamble in the last-16 tie at Stag Meadow with goals either side of the break from Riccardo Cannon and man-of-the-match Jack Denton.

The home side started the brighter and were rewarded with the opening goal on 20 minutes. Denton crossed low from the right wing and Cannon flicked the ball over keeper Rory Anderson from inside six yards, It was a smart finish from the striker, who was on the turn when connecting with the ball.

Windsor could not add to their lead before the break but continued to press for goals early on in the second-half, Denton adding the second with an outstanding solo effort on 51 minutes.

Keeper Hugo Sobte had the awareness to distribute the ball quickly to Denton who raced into the Hamble half. Thanks to a smart dummy-run from Captain Keiran Knight, the attacking midfielder skipped past two defenders into the box, before unleashing a right-foot finish past Anderson.

The visitors from the Wessex League Premier Division rarely threatened the Windsor goal with Denton missing several opportunities to add further goals at the other end.

The victory, in front of 625 supporters at Stag Meadow, capped off a fine day for the Hellenic League, with Bracknell Town and Thatcham Town also reaching the final eight of the FA Vase.

VIDEO: Goal scorer and man-of-the-match Jack Denton reacts to the 2-0 win against Hamble Club in the last-16 of the FA Vase

Windsor manager Mick Woodham told the Observer: "I'm exphausted but great credit to the boys. I'm very proud, It was a terrific game.

"I'm very pleased for everyone here because, off the pitch, to get a crowd in like we have today, there has been a lot of work put in behind the scenes and I'm delighted for everyone.

"For the players, they should be so proud of themselves, for us to be in the last eight of a national cup competition."

Goal scorer and man of the match, Denton: "I'm just buzzing really. It's a great competition and I'm just buzzing to get through to the next round.

"The emotions are still quite high but it's a good feeling.

"Mick had gone to watch Hamble the week before and did a pretty good scouting report. They were pretty much exactly how we thought they were going to set-up.

"I felt that as long as we kept them quite at the back we were always going to go on and win the game.

"To be fair, I can't remember any good chances Hamble created, and we created a lot, so definitely the best team won.

"It's crazy to think that we're just two wins from Wembley. Most professional footballers don't get the chance to play at Wembley, so just the thought of that is crazy.

"The performance today showed we were so solid at the back so good offensively and, on our day, home or away, we can beat anyone in this competition - we feel that confident."

"For me, it's a genuine feeling that we could play at Wembley."
