SLOUGH Town joint-manager Neil Baker has confirmed the intention to freshen up the squad in a bid to get their push for promotion back on track this season.

The Rebels suffered a 3-0 defeat away at Tiverton Town on Saturday which left Baker and fellow manager Jon Underwood feeling the need for a change.

Slough responded to strong words from the management team in a 4-0 win against Redditch United at Arbour Park on Tuesday, but additions to the squad are expected to be made in the coming days.

Baker told the Observer: “There could be new additions potentially before the Banbury match.

“I meet up with someone on Thursday night and hopefully we can ge him in, and we will speak with two more after the weekend.

Freshening up the squad wasn’t a threat but something we had to do. We are not saying that we’re going to get those players because they might not want to come.

“We’re not going to be silly in what we do, we’ve got a wadge budget to adhere to and we will do that. We’re not going to go stupid but we want to try and freshen it up a little bit.

“Winning on Tuesday helps. It makes it a little bit easier to have those conversations with one or two, but there will definitely be one going in the next week and maybe somebody else as well.”

He added: “I don’t really want to let on to anyone because maybe it put one or two players under pressure on Tuesday.

“When you say you’ve put three approaches in the players have no idea what positions they’re in, so we will keep that close to our chests.”

Slough welcome Banbury to Arbour Park this Saturday (3pm), before a trip to Biggleswade Town next Tuesday (7.45pm).

Baker said: “Banbury will be tough on Saturday because they’re a good side. Mike Ford (manager) has them set up well and they’ve got a very good away record this year. They’re having a very good away season but their home form has probably let them down this year.

“Banbury were a side that a lot of people thought might get into the play-offs this year and they’ve probably under-achieved a little bit.

"We’ve got to make sure that our standards don’t drop and put on another performance like we did in midweek.”
