WINDSOR, Slough, Eton & Hounslow (WSEH) Athletics Club had three athletes compete at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham.

Shelayna Oskan-Clarke was accorded the honour of being named as UK Women’s Team Captain. She immediately repaid the honour by winning her heat of the 800 metres (m) in two minutes and 01.76 seconds (2:01.76).

Oskan-Clarke took bronze in the final in 1.59.81 - the fourth fastest time ever recorded by a British athlete.

Morgan Lake had a precarious start in the high jump with two failures at the opening height, but then got her act together to finish just outside the medal hunt in fourth place with 1.93m.

Megan Harris, a late call up to the team, finished in sixth position in her heat of the 60m hurdles in 8.28secs, but will have benefitted from the experience.

THE club’s growing reputation of staging top-class indoor meetings at the Thames Valley Athletics Centre in Eton was further underlined by seven athletes making the long trip from Guernsey to compete in the last meeting of the winter on Sunday.

The 60m sprint saw good representation from WSEH athletes anxious to assess the progress of their winter training schedules.

Michael Louise was third in his senior race in 7.16secs, with Isaac Osei Tutu similarly placed in his event in 7.22secs.

Alex Haydock-Wilson is the current UK Indoor Under-20 (U20) 400m champion but took the chance to test his pace over the shorter distance, finishing third with a personal best of 7.01secs.

Victory Mabunga was third in his race in 7.71secs, while James Badham won his U15 event in 7.90secs.

The best of the U13 runners was Adam Sfendia, who placed third in 8.54secs, with Kai Norbon second in his race in 8.99secs.

Kennedy Bays was third in her senior ladies race in 8.08, with Judy Fakhera securing second in her U20 event in 8.78secs.

Anyola Babalola was in a class of her own in the U17 races after winning in 7.53secs. Shanelle Onastas placed third in her race in 8.47secs whilst Esther Egharevba won her event in 8.62secs.

The 60m hurdles saw three WSEH athletes in action and to good effect. Jodie Smith won her U17 race in 9.16secs, with Ian Bischopps another winner in the U15 division in 9.53ses.

Louise was second in the senior men's event in 8.71secs.

WSEH representation was sparse in the field events but not without success. Smith notched her second win of the day in the U17 shot with an excellent 11.08m, with Jessica Woodford third on 7.48m.

Kevin Snelling was a winner of the veterans' event with a useful 8.01m.

The long jump saw just two WSEH athletes in action. Oliver Carroll was third in the senior men's event with 5.26m while Shakira Wright went one better in the senior ladies division with second place on 5.45m.
