BERKS, Bucks & Oxon Champions Slough recovered from falling behind to draw 31-31 away at Bletchley on Saturday.

Matthew Fenwick scored a hat-trick of tries at Manor Fields, while captain Max Miles and Colby Short also touched down in the draw. Miles also booted three of his conversion attempts.

Greenies captain Miles told the Observer: “It was a bit of a crazy game. We turned up with the wrong mentality and attitude, and to be fair to Bletchley they came out all guns blazing and were superb for the first 60-70 minutes.

“They took the game to us and, based on how welly they played, I don’t understand their position in the league (sixth).

“Our fitness came into it in the end. Our pre-season started in May and the superior fitness told.

“The last 10 minutes was probably the best rugby we’ve played this season and we snatched a draw in the end from a topsy-turvy game.

“I think we were all a bit flat and there was still some tiredness from the game in Plymouth the week before.

“We got a draw and that showed the fighting mentality of the team to not know when they’re beaten.”

The champions are now 18 points clear at the top of the table with three matches remaining this season, starting with a visit to Tamblyn Fields from Chesham on April 7 (3pm).

Miles commented: “At the minute it has been tough to concentrate now that the championship has been decided. It can go one of two ways but we don’t want to lose again this year.

“Some people are still hurting after losing to Tadley. We definitely want to go unbeaten at home this season and we can use that to gee us up. We want to turn Slough into a fortress.

“It’s always tough playing Chesham. They’re one of our biggest rivals and are having a very good season as well. They’re very well drilled with good players and a good gameplan.

“It’s always a good game against Chesham and we just want to do the double of them this season.

“Playing Chesham is always a tough game no matter what year and where the teams are in the table.

“Hungerford are a bit lower down but that will still be a tough game as well, but Chesham will be the hardest.”
