LANGLEY got it all White on the night as they retained the Ascot & District Fielden Cup final after an emphatic 6-0 win over Slough Heating Laurencians at Larges Lane.

Ben White struck three times, with two of his goals coming in as many minutes.

Clinical finishing from Langley proved too much for their rivals, who on occasions showed some good approach but without managing to produce the end product, even missing a penalty when they were only one goal down.

Langley manager John Thirkell told the Observer: “Apart from perhaps a couple of spells in each half, we controlled the game. The boys have done a great job here.”

Their tremendous form this season has fuelled the team with confidence and they looked at home on the artificial grass as at Larges Lane. Thirkell confirmed: “The pitch seemed to suit us more than it did them.”

The cup holders made a lively start to the final, played last Wednesday, and created a couple of chances before taking an 11-minute lead through Mickey Mills.

They also had a couple of efforts cleared off the line, but Slough Heating then started to come more into the picture with Danny Ellis-Band and Scott Lovering both having chances.

The pressure paid off when they won a penalty only for Lovering to see his spot-kick saved by Harry Cushem, diving low to his left.

“That miss gave us a real boost,” remarked Langley skipper Paulo Cicero.

Langley doubled their lead three minutes later with Cicero spotting Heating keeper Scott Slater off his line and lobbing the ball over his head from 45-yards.

Two minutes later Slater was beaten in a similar fashion, though this time by White from near the edge of the area.

Heating made a promising start to the second-half in a bid to get back into the game but they squandered a couple of chances, while Slater pulled off one smart save in particular from Jermaine Gumbs.

Gumbs was not to be denied and he added his name to the scoresheet.

A great run down the right flank by Darryl Carter saw his cross turned home by White on 69 minutes, and soon afterwards he completed his hat-trick.

Cierco added: “The boys up front were tremendous, but all round I can’t complain as everyone worked hard.”

Thirkell agreed, adding: “I thoroughly enjoyed that win, but I feel a bit bad for Micky Creighton, their (assistant) manager.

He played for me for a lot of years at Slough Town and Chertsey. He was a great player and is a good friend as well.”
