BRITISH Asian communities are set to come together to support the Panjab Football Association (PFA) as they challenge for the CONIFA World Cup.

The tournament for defacto nations and minority communities comes to England this June and the Panjab team will play fixtures at Arbour Park in Stoke Road, Slough.

CONIFA World Cup fixtures start on Friday, May 31 and all group matches will be played by Sunday, June 3. The remaining fixtures depend on qualification from the group.

The England-based PFA was created to bring together people of Panjabi origin, which includes both Pakistanis and Indians, and offers a unique opportunity to play at one of the highest levels of amateur football.

Harpreet Singh founded the PFA and said of the tournament: “We want to see all communities of Panjabi origin supporting Panjab FA.

“Over 125 million people share a culture, language and roots, despite being of different nationalities and religions.

“The Panjab FA gives them something to support together - a quality football team making waves across the sporting world.”

The PFA came second in the CONIFA World Cup in 2017, losing only to hosts Abhkazia, while they ran the official England amateur team close with a 2-1 defeat in May 2017.

Singh added: “The Panjab FC has already proven British Asians have football talent. Now it’s time for supporters to show unity behind Panjab.”
