Berkshire

BERKSHIRE continue their MCCA T20 campaign with a double-header against neighbours Oxfordshire at Falkland CC on Sunday, with matches at 11am and 2.45pm, writes Dave Wright.

Following three wins and a defeat, they are one of four counties locked together in Group Two on six points, along with Buckinghamshire, Herefordshire and Shropshire, with Oxon occupying bottom place after losing all of their six matches so far.

But they still have pride to play for and Berkshire will certainly not be treating them lightly, particularly as a number of players from both sides also face up to each other in the Home Counties Premier League.

As usual, admission to the game is free. There is limited parking inside the ground but spaces are available outside in Enborne Street (RG14 6TW).

After Oxon, Berkshire will complete their group games against Herefordshire at Eastnor on Sunday, June 17.

The winners of each group will qualify for finals day, which will be held at Wormsley – the venue where Berkshire lifted the Unicorns Trophy last summer – on August 26.

Berkshire will still be without all-rounder Waqas Hussain, who faces another three or four weeks on the sidelines following an accidental collision with team-mate Sam Burgess during a training session which left the former Slough and Henley player with damage to his eye socket and cheek.

Berkshire Women

BERKSHIRE Women met with mixed fortunes in their two championship matches last weekend when they visited the bottom two counties in the Division Two table.

On Sunday at Irthlingborough, they skittled out tailenders Northamptonshire for 91 before going on to complete a nine-wicket win with Heather Knight making 64 not out from 63 balls.

But the England skipper was unable to play against second-bottom Derbyshire at Marehay on Monday when they were dismissed for just 63 and went on to lose by seven wickets.

Berks slip to fifth ahead of their game against Sussex at North Maidenhead on Sunday.
