BURNHAM have made their first signing of the summer to bring in Mitchell Woodward as a player and assistant to manager, Paul Shone.

The Blues were relegated from the Hellenic Premier Division last season but Shone is confident the future is bright at The Gore after a completed takeover of the club by Nash Bashir.

Shone believes Woodward will bring a winning mentality to the club and knowledge of Division One East having played in the league for Penn & Tylers Green last season.

The Burnham boss, pictured below, told the Observer: “Mitchell is someone I know personally as a friend and I played with him for over 12 years.

“It’s good for me to get him on board and great for the club going forward. He will bring a winning mentality as a player, coach and assistant.

“Mitchell works for The Football Association at present and has worked at Wycombe Wanderers. He has also coached in the United States as well so has a good knowledge of the game.

“Mitchell knows what the division is all about and will give us an insight into what to expect.”

Shone is currently in talks with potential new signings and he insists The Blues will have a team capable of winning promotion back into the Premier Division next season.

He explained: “It’s still early and we’re speaking with people but no-one will sign until the forms are released.

“We’ve spoken with a number of people to get them on board. One or two have committed verbally while others are still undecided because it’s a step or two down, so a big decision for them.

“My job is to entice them into the club and we will do our very best to get people to look into where we want to be and not necessarily where we are now.

“Rest assured come the first day of the season we will have a side capable of competing at the right end of the table to get us up at the first attempt.”

Burnham will begin their pre-season preparations with a trip to Eversley & California on Saturday, July 7.
