DARREN Wilkinson has levelled the Slough Town Legends Match series with Eddie Denton after a 7-5 win at Arbour Park on Saturday.

The two former Rebels managers led teams of past heroes to entertain the 200+ spectators in the ground with a 12-goal thriller.

Goals from Lewis Putman and Danny Jordan gave the Denton XI a clear lead, before Wilkinson and his team levelled the scores through Mark Fiore and an Alex Brown own goal.

Denton and his side went ahead again as Putman and Michael Alexis found the back of the net, but Paul Coyne pulled one back before the half-time interval.

Man-of-the-match Coyne scored twice more after the break to complete his hat-trick and put the Wilkinson team in front for the first time in the game.

Putman bagged another to complete his hat-trick and level the match, but the Wilkinson side secured the victory thanks to late goals from Matt Miller and Josias Carbon.

Wilkinson has now levelled the Legends series at 2-2 and he told the Observer: “It was a good workout and very hot out, but there were some great players out there for both sides.

“It is a good event to get the supporters here and it’s nice for them to see some of the old boys still playing really.

“It was a bit of a goal-fest. Over the previous years it has been very tight but there were some great goals - the Mark Fiore strike was unbelievable.

“The legs are not there now but some of the quality and technique is and that’s good to see.

“It’s nice to get together and we try to do it every year just to get a bit of banter going again from the old boys.

“We all used to play together so it’s good to see each other and catch up because we only see one another from one year to the next.”
