LAWRENCE Clarke led Great Britain to an excellent third position in the medal table at the European Championships in Prague.

The GB team captain will be a little disappointed not to secure an individual medal after finishing fifth with 7.53secs in the 60m hurdles.

Heptathlete Morgan Lake was selected at senior level for the first time and she was not overawed by the task.

Lake improved on her own U17 GB record by a single point to 4,527 and finished in ninth position behind Katarina Johnson-Thompson.

Shelayna Oskan-Clarke also enjoyed her first senior GB selection as she finished third in her heat of the 800m with 2:05.08.

WINDSOR, Slough, Eton & Hounslow Athletics Club ace Joey Watson has set a new club senior shot put record in the United States of America.

Watson had been threatening to annex the previous record of 16m06, set by Neil Griffin back in 1977, all winter.

He finally achieved the feat after throwing 16m57 during an indoor meeting at Geneva, Ohio, where he is currently at university.

Watson also received the Under-20 Men Best Performance Award at the Surrey Athletics Association awards evening.

Alex Tovey performed well for the South of England team at the Home Countries Cross Country International in County Antrim, Northern Ireland last weekend.

Tovey finished in ninth position overall in a quality event enhanced by several overseas competitors including a squad from Kenya.

The race was won by Tom Ayeko from the USA and Tovey was the third English competitor to finish, underlying the quality of his performance.

Morven Goodrum continued to enhance her cross country status after a fifth-place finish at the English Schools Cross Country Championships.

Goodrum was competing in the inter girls race in Blackburn, and will now represent England at the Schools Home Countries Cross Country International.

Taylor Campbell threw a personal best of 67m28 to finish in seventh position at the Euro Cup Winter Throws Meeting in Dieria, Portugal.

Campbell, 18, was representing Great Britain in the U23 hammer, and it was a fine performance against athletes up to five years his senior.
