WINDSOR, Slough, Eton and Hounslow (WSEH) Athletics Club have won a total of 29 gold medals at the Berkshire County Championships.

Held at the Thames Valley Athletics Centre in Eton, the championships saw WSEH add considerably to the medal tally won at similar events in Buckinghamshire, Middlesex and Surrey.

The local club’s sprinters were in fine form. Malcolm Gledhill was a clear winner of the senior 100m race in 10.9 seconds (secs).

The senior ladies event was a much closer affair with Harriet Jones getting the edge in 12.7secs ahead of teammates Jessica Armah and Lesley Owusu who both clocked 12.8secs.

Kennedy Bays was another gold medal winner in the Under-17 (U17) 100m in 12.5secs. Gledhill completed the sprint double with a 200m victory in 22.1secs.

Bradley Tenuta was the U20 winner with 22.3secs. Owusu turned the tables on Jones in the senior ladies 200m with a clear win in 25.8secs.

The best of the middle distance races came from the fast-improving Calum Edwards. He won both the U20 800m in 2:01.04 and then the 1,500m with 4:23.09.

There was also a gold medal for Niall Unger in the U17 800m in 2:05.04. Khumo Karas repeated the feat with a win in the U15 800m with 2:32.07.

The WSEH hurdlers were also on song as Jones completed a double with a win in the senior 100m hurdles in 15.0secs.

Jasmyn Gillespie was another double gold winner. Her rewards came in the U20 100m with 16.3secs and the 400m hurdles in 1:06.03.

The field events were dominated by local athletes, which resulted in 15 county champions. The versatile Jake Norris easily won his number one event, the U17 hammer with a massive 73.00m.

Norris then went on to win the javelin with a personal best of 42.39m, as well as grabbing a silver in the discus with 36.86m.

Amy Holder was another double throws winner in the U20 discus (50.11m) and shot (10.89m). Mikki Finn, <em>pictured</em>, was the senior hammer gold medal winner with 50.70m.

The WSEH jumpers also added to the medals tally. Sam Hewitt was the U20 high jump winner with 1.90m, a feat repeated by Nadya Wisham in the U20 ladies event (1.50m).

Jack McCara took the U17 pole vault title with a clearance of 2.60m. Ollie Carroll notched the senior long and triple jump double with 5.05m and 10.71m respectively.

Other triple jump victors were Dan Ibokwe (14.31m) in the U20 men, Zoe Overall in the U20 women with 11.70m, and Hannah Jones in the U17 girls (10.38m).

WSEH athletes were also to the fore in the long jump. Isabelle Charters took gold in the U20 with 4.94m and Jones completing her brace of wins in the U17 competition (4.81m).

After a long day of competition, there was a silver medal for Jake Ward in the U13 quadrathlon.
