WINDSOR, Slough, Eton & Hounslow Athletics Club have been crowned UK Athletics Upper Development League champions after victory in the National final on Sunday.

WSEH travelled to Birmingahm with high hopes of repeating their success in 2013 and though the standard of competition was such that individual wins were hard to come by a fantastic team effort saw them eventually emerge victorious.

The local club record a total of 831 points to win by a significant margin and again claim the title of national champions. Shaftesbury Barnet were runners-up ahead of Blackheath & Bromley in third place.

The opening track event, the 400m hurdles, set the scene as what was to come for WSEH with a win for Ellie Rayer in 1:05.34, and a second place finish for Sean Rafique (57.91 secs).

More good points came in the Under-17 (U17) 300m hurdles from Anna Croft, second in 46.40 and Allana Fagan, third in 50.01.

Points were harder to come by in the sprint races with Tade Ojara second in the U17 100m in a personal best (pb) of 11.14secs, and Olivia Caesar third in the U20 200m in 25.38secs.

Caesar improved to second in the 400m with 57.22secs with newcomer Lauren Herrington third on 1:02.57.

The best of the males was Alex Haydock-Wilson who set a new mark of 51.63secs for third in the U17 race.

Points continued to accumulate in the 800m with a second place for Sarah Chapman (2:21.07) in the U20 race, whilst in the U17 age group, Saskia Krefling was third in 2:21.33.

Chapman was back on the track in the 1,500m, this time for third in 4:47.88.

Morven Goodrum stole the show with some dominant running to win the U17 race in 4:36.14, with Alex Barboru second in 5:03.03. Matt Bradley was third in the U17 category with 4:15.73.

The 3,000m saw another appearance from Goodrum, this time having to settle for second in 10:05.74, with Hanna Dingemans third on 12:12.38.

The steeplechase proved to a good points earner for the local club. Tilly Compton-Stewart was a fine second in the U20 with 5:18.45, a position repeated by Alex Barbour (5:18.05) in the U17 contest.

For the men, best placed was Ethan Tattersall, third in the U17 in 4:66.07.

The short hurdles provided WSEH with a lone win with Tade Ojara being the victor in 13.72secs.

The local club's points tally was increased significantly by some excellent results from the field events.

Sam Challis won the U17 long with 6.38m and Jess Robinson took third on 5.12m. There was a clear win for Dami Famikin in the U20 triple jump with 14.19m.

Robinson returned to the fray in her favourite event, the pole vault, placing second with 3.65m. More points were added by Tom Farres, third in the U20 on 4.40m, with Jack McAra (3.20m) similarly placed in the U17 event.

The high jump saw Sam Hewitt in third place with 1.95m. Megan Porter placed third in the U17 division on 1.55m.

Despite the absence of an injured Taylor Campbell, WSEH dominated the throwing events.

Younger brother Bayley Campbell won the U17 hammer with a personal best of 59.24m, whilst Jake Norris took U20 honours with 51.36m.

The ladies U20 discus produced the only WSEH maximum points of the event, with victories for Amy Holder (45.42m) and Amy Herrington (27.27m). In the U20men, Gurlal Randhawa was second with a pb of 57.91m.

Morgan Lake returned from the World Championships with an injured ankle and only contested the shot, finishing second with 12.62m.

Another athlete to raise his game was Kieran Dunbar who improved his best in the U17 shot by nearly one metre to finish second with 12.77m.

The best of the javelin results came from Jade Compton-Stewart (53.02m0 with third place in the U17 category.

WSEH play host to the Alder Valley Girls League final this Saturday and, a day later, travel to Reading for the Boys final, marking the end of the track season.
