WINDSOR, Slough, Eton & Hounslow (WSEH) Athletics Club had six athletes in action at the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade over the weekend, writes Dennis Daly.

The most successful was Shelayna Oskan-Clarke who lost the 800m title by the thickness of a vest in a photo despite setting a personal best time of 2:00.39.

There was much bumping and barging involving Oskan-Clarke and the eventual winner, Selina Buchel. Oskan-Clarke finished the stronger down the straight but, in a dip for the line, she just missed out.

Morgan Lake made the final of the high jump with a third place qualifying mark of 1.90m but she was unable to raise her game, finishing eighth in the final with a well below-par 1.85m.

Ashley Bryant had been accorded the honour of being made team captain. He made a solid effort in the heptathlon with his best results coming in the long jump and shot with second places.

He was also fourth in the high jump, pole vault and 60m hurdles, fifth in the 1,000m and seventh in the 60m sprint.

He eventually finished ninth overall with a points total just short of his own WSEH club record.

Rachel Wallader was 10th in the shot with a close to best 17.35m.

The three WSEH athletes representing Ireland all went out in the heats of their various events.

Zac Curran was fourth in the 800m with 1:50.87, Ben Reynolds was sixth in his 60m hurdles event in 7.81 and Kerry O'Flaherty was similarly placed in her 1,500m heat in 4:23.82 - nonetheless it was a new personal best.

WSEH athletes are again on international duty this weekend when Wallader (shot) and Amy Holder (discus) represent Great Britain in a European Throws competition in Gran Caneria, Spain.
