AFTER their medal achievements at the South of England Championships, hopes were high within Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow (WSEH) Athletics Club for repeat performances in the National Cross Country Championships at Parliament Hill.

There were certainly good performances but the best result came from an unexpected quarter, the under-13 (U13) girls. Charlotte Dewar led the way with an excellent bronze individual medal.

Freya Wilcox was next to appear in 45th place, closely followed by Oona Gibbons in 57th spot, with Rachel Clutterbuck 59th to pick up the team silver medals. The team winners were Chiltern Harriers.

The U15 girls also gave good account of themselves to finish in fifth position in the team event.

First to appear was Eloisa Harris in 47th place, chased hard by sisters Amy Young (53rd) and Jasmine Young (69th). Katie Clutterbuck completed the WSEH team in 129th spot. The team winners were Norwich.

As Southern Champions, there were high hopes for the WSEH U20 women’s team, but the absence of several key athletes severely dented their chances. Nonetheless, those that did toe the start line gave a good account of themselves to finish a creditable fifth in the team race.

Meg Ormond further enhanced her international credentials with a fine seventh place. She was followed by Hannah Novakovic in 27th, with Izzie Rayner (69th) and Becca Pope (91st) completing the team. The team winners were Sale Harriers from Manchester.

The U15 boys team were led home by Sam Hodgson in 24th place. There was a gap before Luke Hynes appeared in 94th, ahead of Ross Van Heerde (134th) and Will Goddard (164th) completing the WSEH team in eighth position. The team winners were Aldershot & Farnham.

The U13 boys team will have enjoyed the experience but were never in the medal hunt finishing in 30th place. The team winners were Chiltern Harriers.

There was a good turn out by the WSEH senior men, with eight athletes toeing the start line. Of those team captain Simon Millett was the first to finish in 140th place.

James Tidd was next to appear in 203rd place closely followed by Steve Kimber in 208th place.

Jonny Dry finished in 378th place and the WSEH team was completed by Ben Findlay (590th) and Steve Fell(629th) to secure 31st place in the team event.
