The Observer has teamed up with Inspired Slough to offer readers the opportunity to participate in sports events as the borough of Slough prepares for the start of the 2012 London Olympic Games on July 27.

IT MAY be wet and windy out there but that hasn't stopped the Olympic fever spreading through the town. With just under a month to go until the torch makes its way through Slough on July 10, the excitement is really stepping up a notch.

The wet weather certainly didn't dampen the spirits of the Slough District Scouts who had a fantastic time at their Olympic-themed Jubilee Jamboree over the long bank holiday weekend. From zorbing to archery and even a giant street party, it is safe to say that fun was had by all.

For those of you who haven't already, don't forget to sign up to Sky Ride Local which starts this weekend in Slough. Sky Ride Local will be running rides in Slough and the surrounding areas every Sunday throughout the summer. What's more, children can win prizes.

Book on to the Radar Route bike ride this Sunday (June 17) and you will automatically receive a free goody bag if you are under 16 years old. It's too good to miss, go to www.goskyride.com/slough to book.

Don't miss the Special People On Ice (SPICE) Summer Jubilee at Absolutely Ice on Saturday July 7.

From 4pm, there will be a whole range of activities from a skating gala to a family fun skate as well as BBQ.

Family tickets can be purchased for just £10 or they are £5 each. Get yours before they sell out.

Schools are certainly getting involved in the sporting spirit of things this summer too.

Don't miss the Slough School Sport Network's 'Schools Torch Relay', which will be taking place from July 2-9 and will cover 32 miles with people running, cycling or walking.

If all of that isn't exciting enough, the Berkshire School Games are being held between June 26-28.

Slough is the only town to be represented in each sport which is a fantastic achievement and definitely something to shout about.

Good luck to everyone taking part - check back for our next column on July 6 to find out how they all got on.
