GARY Reeves insists that Burnham will not rush into appointing a new manager after the recent resignation of ex-boss Mark Tallentire.

Blues were left without a manager when Tallentire stepped down earlier this month following cuts to the playing budget as the club attempted to balance the books.

However, after watching the 2-2 draw at Taunton last weekend, Reeves told the Observer four applications have been received for the job with the interview process set to begin next week.

He said: “We’re not going to rush into anything and will leave the process until after the big away game at Tiverton this Saturday.

“We will take our time and look at everything before we decide what to do, but we must make sure that the appointment is the right one to take the club forward.

“I’m disappointed Mark has left and I’m sure that after a given amount of time he will regret the decision. At times, the football we’ve played has been better than I’ve seen in a long time.

“Mark has made his choice and I respect him for that, but the club has to move on, and we don’t need to rush into anything.

“The shame is we’ve been through a lot of managers in the last couple of years, although some of them have been temporary.”

Praising the attitude of the players, Reeves added: “You couldn’t be more impressed with the spirit in the dressing room, but the long journeys do take their toll.

“We must make sure that the players are happy and fighting for the shirt, and at the moment the team is picking itself.

“I stood by the dugout on Saturday and was very impressed with what was coming out. The team all listened and responded to Paul Mulvaney (coach).”
