BOBBY Sher is not too disappointed that Slough could only manage a draw when Tring Park visited Upton Court Road on Saturday.

Sher believes Slough should have won the game but, having dropped catches and losing wickets early on in reply, has praised his players for their fighting spirit.

Northamptonshire man Saif Zaib cracked 157 and Charlie MacDonell 54 as Tring reached 290-9 from their allotted 64 overs. Sher took 4-39 for Slough.

In response, the hosts recovered from 32-4 to reach 278-8 after 56 overs. Feroz Baig registered his first ton in senior cricket with 125, supported by Shahid Yousaf on 59.

“It was a good game of cricket and obviously We’re not too disappointed,” Sher told the Observer.

“To be honest we should have won the game. We fell 13 runs short in the end but were comfortable and looking likely to win until we fizzed away. I felt it was a game we definitely could have won, and hopefully next week we will get over the line.

“We dropped a few catches, including myself, so it could have been a totally different game.

“I didn’t bowl that well to start with but eventually got my line and length right and was quite fortunate to pick up a few wickets towards the end.

“We stuck to our task well but once again were let down by our batting. Our pro should not have got out when he did and he should have seen the game through.

“Feroz has been an exceptional player and it was an exceptional innings, one of the best I’ve ever seen. It’s his first senior ton for Slough and hopefully it will be the first of many.

“Steve came in and batted well but chipped his wicket away, and I will be out for three or four weeks now with a pulled hamstring that affected my batting.

“We only needed seven an over but we couldn’t see the game through, but we did give a good account of ourselves. I’m slightly frustrated but not too much.

“Having been 32-4 most teams would have capitulated and lost, but showed fighting spirit and that we can bat lower down the order.”

Slough are away to Great & Little Tew on Saturday (11am start).

Sher commented: “We got to see them bowl earlier in the year and, if you look at their results, they've been a bit up and down just like us.

“I think it will be a good game and both teams will fancy their chances.

“We want a strong performance and come back with a good result. We're undefeated in seven weeks which is a decent run, but it would be nice to get a few more wins under our belts.
